Happy happy Friday! I am ready to kick my feet up and try to relax. It was a very busy week in room 16! Here's my Five For Friday!
We've been working so much on opinion writing this year! Most of my firsties are able to develop a clear topic sentence, supporting details, and a concluding sentence all on their own now! This week each student wrote about which fruit they think is the tastiest. They turned out pretty sweet:). Instead of creating a craft with our writing this week, we made a fruit salad! I asked that each student bring one piece of fruit to add to the salad. As you'll notice from the pictures we ended up with a lot of fruit! The kids were in the classroom before the bell rang...eager to tell me about the fruits they brought. So cute!
Our beautiful salad!
Yes, I had a lot of chopping to do:)! Several students said, "Wow, we didn't know you were a cooker too...you can do everything!" First graders are so adorable.

I'm a little late blogging this week. But, I have a really good reason. Friday after school, I headed down south with one of my favorite teacher friends, Jessica, at Mrs.Peterson Loves To Teach. We went to our first blogger-meet up this weekend in New Port! It was a blast! The meet-up was hosted by Kristen from Easy Teaching Tools and Courtney from Ramona Recommends; they are the sweetest! It was completely awesome to finally meet some of the teachers whose blogs and TPT stores I stalk, I mean follow:). These ladies are so talented and are full of some amazing ideas! Teacher to the Core was also there! Can you believe I met Katie, from Teacher to the Core in real life?! She is so funny and completely awesome!
That's all for tonight. Unfortunetly, last week was a whirl wind and I forgot to take pictures along the week. Sad, I know. I'm sure I'll have a cutesy craft or two to share next time. Have a great week!
Here are some of the cutesy little treats we got. Teachers are the best.
I love these adorable cookies and my "official" blogger name tag:-).
Before heading home, we did a little shopping and stopped at Roger's Gardens. Amazing. I got this beautiful orchid there. Isn't is gorgeous? Orchids are my favorite!

It's that time again...Five For Friday!
We've been learning about weather and the different types of storms this week. So, naturally, we had to read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. It's such a fun book!
The kids became meteorologists this week (yes, my firsties now know what a meteorologist is) and predicted the weather. This lil' guy predicted it was going to rain juicy oranges!
The kids also created their own wacky towns, much like Chewandswallow. They wrote about the types of food it would rain in their town for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Can you tell we've also been learning about adjectives?!
We've also been learning lots of different strategies to add and subtract. This weeks focus was on fact families. The kids created these awesome St. Patty's Day fact families! Yes, that is gold glitter you see all over those shamrocks! I think I'll be seeing it for a while. It's all over the classroom:).
This week was the Young Authors' Fair at our school! I'm on the committee that helps put this together. The kids turned in some awesome books. Here's a peek at a few that were submitted this year!
It is responsibility month at our school this month! Our kids are learning all about how they can become responsible students. To help get the kids involved we had a door banner contest with all the classes. Here was our door! Responsibility Rules!
Ok, I saved the best for last! Isn't that how it should be? I am in LOVE with our latest art work! I will admit, I was skeptical about doing this art project. I wasn't sure if it would be too advanced for my kiddos. But, it was perfect! They loved it and were so proud of the finished product. I'm hoping to submit some of these works of art to our upcoming art fair. I'm not sure if the kids are going to let me take any of them off the wall though. I love having things up that the kids are so proud of. Yes, in case you were wondering...that was two projects that involved glitter this week. I'm a brave teacher:)!
